(NON) ALIGNED MOVEMENTS || TO KEEP IN TOUCH || summer summit 20.08 – 29.08.2023 in BERLIN!

AS PART OF THE (NON) ALIGNED MOVEMENTS PROJECT, THE NOMAD DANCE ACADEMY (NDA) IS EXCITED TO PRESENT ITS SUMMER SUMMIT FROM AUGUST 20TH TO AUGUST 29TH, 2023, IN BERLIN! Check program in details here.

The Summer School program, “To Keep In Touch…,” is scheduled for August 20th to August 25th, 2023, and is open to the public.

This program aims to explore the historical and contemporary challenges that active dance communities face. Collectively, we aim to envision new avenues for relational and empathic dance work in times marked by social, political, and cultural unrest. The Summer School will place particular emphasis on the context of the post-Yugoslavian Western Balkans and offers a rich tapestry of movement-based, discursive, and artistic practices, prioritizing interactive exchange over simple presentation. Sessions will be facilitated by artists, researchers, choreographers, and practitioners who share an association or alignment with the principles, history, or context of the Nomad Dance Academy network.

The latter portion of the Berlin Summer Summit will be allocated to the annual NDA Forum. During this event, members of the NDA network will convene to collectively determine the future program of the NDA. This will not be accessible to the general public.

Summer School Program Overview:

[19h; Sun.]: Kick-Off Event – The Ideas & Facts Of Nomad Dance Academy: Sunday evening we will celebrate the Kick-Off of the summer summit, introducing the Nomad Dance Academy and the Summer School program To Keep In Touch….

[10-12.30/13h; Mon.-Fri.]: Practicing Dance Together: Each of the morning sessions will concentrate on movement practices rooted in the principles of kinesthetic empathy and relationality from a unique perspective. The objective is to interact with the social and political dimensions of dance and choreographic work, transcending the limitations of pre-choreographed structures.

[12.30-15.30h; Mon.-Fri.]: Lunch Break

[15.30-18.30h; Mon.-Fri.]: Practicing Playful Thinking Together: The afternoon sessions are designed to cultivate discursive practices, fostering dialogues and talks centred around contemporary communal practices, inter-local artistic and cultural alignments, and inclusive methodologies developed by the NDA in conjunction with its international partners over years of collaboration. Participants will engage deeply with tactical discourses and their corresponding practices.

[19-21h; Mon.-Thu.]: Artistic Moments Together: We invite you to an evening series of lively cross-disciplinary encounters, where artists, writers, and art practitioners host each other and engage in open dialogue, shedding new light on aspects of each other’s work. Through these collaborative presentations, unbound to any specific format, the attendees will have the opportunity to experience the range of artistic approaches, formats, and modes of expression in a vibrant context of relational and communal art.

[20-22h; Fri.]: Practicing Nomadism Together. We will conclude our week together on Friday night with an exciting evening session in which we will delve into the concept of nomadism and its resonances with the agenda and ethos of the Nomad Dance Academy. Between mobility and sustainability – what are the potentials and challenges of nomadic, inter-local, dance activism?

We are very much looking forward to seeing you there!
